NEW YORK, NY — On Sunday 7/16/17, members of the Songcatcher Concert Choir – children, teens and adults – performed the National Anthem for the opening of the New York Liberty game at Madison Square Garden. The group has been preparing for this once in a lifetime event for the past month and all were thrilled to represent Songcatchers in one of the world’s largest arenas in the world. Members of the choir come from New Rochelle and surrounding towns and perform throughout the year at local community events and in collaboration with the New Rochelle Opera, Hugh A. Doyle Center Singers, Garito Manor Singers and the Sound Shore Chorale. Sr Beth Dowd, founder of the program and choir director, reflected on the day with gratitude for the opportunity and high praise for the teamwork and performance. This appearance is yet one more highlight during the 20th anniversary celebration of the Songcatcher Afterschool Music Program where so many in the Choir had their start. In addition to the Choral Arts and After School Music Programs, Songcatchers also offers an Early Childhood Music Program.
