NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Students in the Young Engineers School summer math, science and engineering academy shot off the rockets they’d spent much of the week building.

The group is made up of students from Albert Leonard and Isaac E. Young middle schools. The classes are at Albert Leonard.

Some of the rockets were Estes models, fired off with gunpowder. Others were assembled from household objects including a plastic soft drink bottle and the cardboard cylinder from a roll of paper towels, and shot skyward with water pressure.
