NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Lawrence W. Nagel, Jr. age 91, of Forked River, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 22, 2017. Larry was born in New Rochelle, NY, and had lived there prior to moving to Forked River in 1981. Mr. Nagel was a Firefighter for the New Rochelle Fire Department, for 25 years, retiring in 1981. He was the co-founder of the City Park Rod and Gun Hunting Club in East Jewett, NY, he also established the Uniformed Firefighter’s Association’s Firefighter Memorial located at Station #1 in New Rochelle in 1973, and the organizer of the 50th annual Parade for the Uniformed Fireman’s Association which was one of the largest Parades in the City of New Rochelle. Larry was also named Firefighter of the year in 1975. He was the Co-Owner of Apollo Trucking and Jacob’s Locksmith both in New Rochelle. He founded the Lacey Golf Association in 1993, enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, gardening and golfing. He was a member of the New Rochelle Elk’s and the Lacey Elk’s, as well as the Lacey Moose Lodge. He was a member of the American Legion in New Rochelle and the Veteran’s of Foreign War, in Bamber Lake. Mr. Nagel was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran serving during World War II, as a Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class,

Larry was predeceased by his wife Frances, 2015, and his sisters Catherine and Mary. He is survived by his seven children, MaryJane (Susan), Patricia, Larry, Frank (Karen), Teresa, Karen (Warren) and Kim. Also surviving are his 3 sisters Jane, Lilly, and Joyce and his 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. 

A viewing will be held on Friday, January 27, 2017 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm and on Saturday, January 28, from 10:30 until the time of service at 11:00 am at the Riggs Funeral Home, 130 North Rt. 9 (aka 130 North Main Street) Forked River, NJ 609-693-8222. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517, in his memory.
