NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Barnard Early Childhood Center community gathered today for its annual 9-11 ceremony at Amy’s Greenhouse, which was built at the school with donations in the name of Amy O’Doherty, who perished at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. She was 23 and the daughter of Barnard teacher Geraldine Davie, who has since retired.
Mayor Noam Bramson, Superintendent Dr. Brian Osborne, Brother Kevin Devlin of Iona College and others took part in the commemoration. New Rochelle police and firefighters attended.
Mayor Bramson asked people to take the lesson that “even from the darkest of experiences we can draw light and life, and that, to me, is what this greenhouse has always represented. Such a wonderful gift to our entire community.”
