NEW ROCHELLE, NY — George Latimer is learning the hard way that karma can be a cruel mistress when you judge others with the same measure used to measure you.
In 2014, Latimer’s spokesman in the Senate, Mike Murphy, had this to say about Latimer opponent Joe Dillon on Oct. 8, 2014:
“State government has enough problems without adding a person like Joe Dillon, who doesn’t take responsibility for paying his own taxes and can’t manage his own finances.” (Journal News, Oct. 8, 2014)
Dillon had mortgage troubles and Latimer exploited them during the campaign but it was soon discovered (one month after the election) that Latimer himself had been sued for failing to pay his mortgage for one full year.
Latimer now has his own issues with failing to pay $46,000 in property taxes causing many to wonder whether (Mike) Murphy’s Law applies to Latimer himself.
Latimer did not respond to a request for comment.
A well-known Westchester Democrat, speaking on background, expressed frustration about Latimer’s growing tax and personal finance issues.
“It was never going to be easy to beat Astorino and this doesn’t help at all”, the source said.
Latimer has claimed that the house in question was deeded to his wife two years prior to the mom passing but Latimer listed the same house as an asset in his J-COPE filings. The tax obligation on the house applies to both Latimer and his wife.
Latimer has also been sued for failing to pay his car payment and again for failing to pay his gas bill.
