Mystery of Missing New Rochelle Middle School Students Continues — 335 Isaac Young Students Unaccounted for in Test Data

Written By: Robert Cox

NEW ROCHELLE, NY —Test data obtained from the City School District of New Rochelle under a Freedom of Information request, states that out of 1,222 Isaac Young students 555 students took the 2017 ELA Exam and that 513 students took the 2017 Math Exam. The New York State Report Card states that 555 students took the 2017 ELA Exam but that only 178 students took the 2017 Math Exam (see previous article).

So, there are either 335 Isaac Young students unaccounted for by New York State for the 2017 Math Exam or the City School District of New Rochelle is overstating the number of students who took the 2017 Math Exam at Isaac Young by 335 students.

Another off figure is “Total” White students at Albert Leonard is 614 for the ALMS 2017 ELA data but 530 for the ALMS 2017 Math so where there are 84 students “missing” in the data.

The entire analysis of opt-out data is contained in the images above, below are the Opt-Out rates by School, then by Exam type and Racial/Ethnicity. The data provided by the District was redacted in certain categories such as American Indian/Alaskan Native, Asian/Pacific Islander and Multiracial so the percentages above are adjusted a bit and not exact but within 0-2% accuracy.
