NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College women’s soccer team dropped its fourth Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game of the year on Wednesday afternoon to Monmouth by a final score of 2-0.
The Hawks used to first half goals from freshman LeAnne Davis and Miranda Konstantinides in route to their fifth league victory.
The Gaels lone first half shot in the game came in the 6th minute with freshman Katie Benson taking her first shot of the season. Monmouth sophomore keeper, and three-time MAAC Defensive Player of the Week, Amanda Knaub stopped it diving her right. Iona’s second shot came from junior Mariana Jaramillo in the closing minutes; this afternoon’s game ends a nine-game streak with at least one shot on goal.
Senior Tiffany Martinez made 13 saves in net for Iona. It is her second 10+ save effort this season; she made a season-high 14 saves back on Aug. 20 at Stony Brook. Martinez now has five career games with at least 10 saves.
Davis scored Monmouth’s first goal on a corner kick that was served in by sophomore Maddie Gibson towards the far post. Gibson now has six assists on the year. Konstantinides netted her second of the season on a penalty kick that Gibson drew while charging down the right side.
Iona returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 7 PM with kick-off in Poughkeepsie, NY against Marist.
