WHITE PLAINS, NY — As they have done each year since 9/11, more than 130 organizations in Westchester and Fairfield Counties will join together for the Annual Thanksgiving Diversity Breakfast on Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 7:30 – 10:00 am at Manhattanville College, Purchase, NY. They will celebrate our diverse roots and shared values with particular focus this year on “healing our fractured society” in the wake of such a divisive year.
This year, we honor three individuals for their exemplary work:
1. Rev. Doris Dalton, Westchester Martin Luther King Jr. Institute for Nonviolence; Deacon, United Methodist Church, New York Annual Conference
2. Bill Darger, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Westchester Stake)
3. Rev. Kymberly McNair, Antioch Baptist Church, Bedford Presbyterian Church and My Sisters’ Place
Presenting the awards will be previous Diversity Breakfast honorees Dr. Mahjabeen Hassan, American Muslim Women’s Association; Rev. Stephen C. Holton, St. James Episcopal Church in North Salem; and Dr. Carl Procario Foley, Office of Mission and Ministry at Iona College.
Reverend Stephen Pogue, the Pastor at Greater Centennial A.M.E. Zion Church in Mount Vernon will offer the keynote speech on the theme, “Healing Our Fractured Society.”
Additional presenters include Dr. Michael Geisler, President of Manhattanville College; Usman Khan, Muslim Chaplain at Manhattanville College; David L. Smith, the President of the New York, New York North Mission of the LDS Church; a gospel choir; and the Quintessentials Choir of Manhattanville College.
The honoree presentation will be followed by facilitated table discussions on the theme for this year’s Breakfast: “Healing Our Fractured Society.” This is always a highlight for the participants.
Some 400 faith and ethnic leaders from both counties are expected to attend. The event is sponsored by AJC Westchester/Fairfield (event founder), AJC Westchester/Fairfield, Bedford Presbyterian Church, Mt. Hope AME Zion Church, The Duchesne Center for Religion and Social Justice at Manhattanville College, Westchester Jewish Council, and the Westchester Youth Alliance. They will represent over 130 organizations, including The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Westchester Stake), The Episcopal Diocese of New York, The Metropolitan New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, The New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, The New York Annual Conference of the A.M.E. Zion Church, and the The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York. Also, many government officials will be in attendance.
