NEW YORK, NY — Congressman Eliot L. Engel, a top member on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, marked the start of the health insurance open enrollment period by encouraging New Yorkers to explore their insurance options and sign up for coverage.
November 1st marks the start of New York’s health insurance open enrollment period. From now until January 31, 2018, you can purchase a plan or renew your coverage through New York State of Health, the state’s health insurance marketplace. If you sign up by December 15th, you can get coverage that starts on January 1, 2018.
“Health insurance can protect you from astronomical costs when a serious accident or illness occurs,” Engel said. “That’s why I’m encouraging all New Yorkers to take advantage of this year’s open enrollment period and find a health plan that works for you.”
“Coverage could be more affordable than you think,” Engel added. “That’s because financial help is available. During last year’s enrollment period, 8-in-10 people qualified for financial help – for most people, that meant they could find insurance premiums between $50 and $100 per month.”
