NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College community mourns the loss of Dazzmen Johnson, the inaugural captain and beloved member of our Men’s Rugby program who passed away last Friday.
Dazzmen was an exceptional, determined young man with a bright future ahead of him. He joined our rugby program at the start of its debut season in 2016, and quickly established himself as an energetic leader. He was named team captain and later, its first MVP (Most Valuable Player).
We extend our deepest sympathies to Dazzmen’s family, friends, and all who had the honor to know him. We share in their sadness at his untimely passing.
The family has established a GoFundMe page for those wishing to help with unexpected financial needs.
The College community will gather at 6:00 pm on Thursday, Jan. 11, to reflect and celebrate Dazzmen’s life. The remembrance will take place in the Gaddy Courtyard on the New Rochelle campus. As well, a moment of silence will be held in Dazzmen’s honor just before the start of the men’s basketball game scheduled for 8 p.m. that evening.
Funeral Arrangements
Services for Dazzmen will be held this Saturday, Jan. 13, at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Roselle, N.J. (1002 Rivington Street). The viewing will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., with the funeral immediately following.
Please join us in keeping Dazzmen’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
