NEW ROCHELLE, NY — On Friday, March 2, 2018, the Boys & Girls of New Rochelle (BGCNR) is hosting its 10th Annual BE GREAT gala at The Surf Club on the Sound. BE GREAT is a festive celebration highlighting the work of the Club and honoring individuals and businesses who have demonstrated a commitment to the youth and families in New Rochelle. Tickets, sponsorships and ads for BE GREAT can be purchased via our website at www.bgcnr.org.

This year, we are thrilled to honor The Remington Women’s Auxiliary (RWA) and Remington Men’s Club (RMC) as our BE GREAT CITIZENS. The RWA was founded in 1938 as the Calendar Club to support the Community Boys’ Club. Their annual luncheon raises funds that have been used to purchase appliances, program supplies, trips, and most recently, summer camp scholarships. RWA also awards the Lucy Forrest Educational Incentive Award for deserving Remington participants. The RMC was established by members who attended the Million Man March. When they returned to New Rochelle, they committed to revitalizing their inactive predecessor. RMC has covered the cost of repairs, sponsored kids on fieldtrips, purchased furniture and equipment, as well as provided college scholarships for graduating seniors. Additionally, the RMC has made general contributions directly to BGCNR.

We are also thrilled to honor Coach Lou DiRienzo as our BE GREAT COACH AND EDUCATOR. Coach DiRienzo has served as the head football coach of the New Rochelle High School Huguenots for 26 years. He has   won nine championships and coached several players who have gone on to play professional football in both the NFL and Canada. He has shown a commitment to his players’ success off the field demonstrated by the hours spent mentoring them, assisting with college applications, and facilitating access to college scholarships.

Finally, we are thrilled to honor Robert and Nancy Lepre of Avante Contracting Corporation as our BE GREAT BUSINESS. Nancy and Robert founded Abracadabra Painting Company in 1982. Almost twenty (20) years later Nancy founded Avante Contracting Corp. with Robert buying into the company in 2009. Both have been supporters of the Boys & Girls Club of Mount Vernon, with Nancy serving as a former board member. When BGCNR began the renovation of the Remington Clubhouse, Robert and Nancy offered understanding and patience, while assuring us that we would be able to complete the project on budget so that we could create a space worthy of our kids.

The Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle provides a variety of academic, cultural and recreational programs for youth ages 6-18 throughout the City of New Rochelle. We serve more than 1,500 each year at our six locations. For more information on programs offered call the Club at 914-235-3736 or visit our website at www.bgcnr.org.
