NEW YORK, NY — The New York State Thruway Authority today announced the launch of a $10 E-ZPass discount for new customers to encourage motorists to sign up for the most convenient and cost- effective way to travel New York toll roads, bridges and tunnels. More people than ever are using E-ZPass, as sales of On-The-Go tags jumped 22 percent in 2017 from 2016, setting a new record of 131,175 tags sold. Sales of On-The-Go tags have more than doubled since 2012.
“We’ve had tremendous success with motorists using E-ZPass, which is the easiest way to pay tolls, and our goal is to have everyone taking advantage of the benefits, especially with the expansion of cashless tolling system-wide in 2020,” Thruway Authority Acting Executive Director Matthew J. Driscoll said. “We’re offering this account credit as an incentive for people considering purchasing an E-ZPass so they can join the millions of drivers already enjoying the discounts and flexible payment options available to customers.”
As part of this special incentive program, motorists who purchase a Thruway E-ZPass On-The-Go tag at one of the more than 780 locations across the state and register it from Thursday, Feb. 1 through Monday, Feb. 26, 2018 will be eligible to receive the account credit. After the customer takes 10 trips on the New York State Thruway in six months, they will receive a $10 credit on their account.
E-ZPass On-The-Go tags are available as a prepackaged tag for $25. Customers can register the tag online or by calling 1-800-697-1554. The $25 is credited to the customer’s account and the tag becomes active in 24 hours.
E-ZPass is accepted along the entire 570-mile Thruway system and at cashless tolling locations at the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, MTA Bridges and Tunnels in New York City and the Port Authority’s Bayonne Bridge, and, starting in Spring 2018, at the Grand Island Bridges in Western New York.
More than 83 percent of the tolls at the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge were paid with E-ZPass in 2017. System-wide, E-ZPass is used for more than 73 percent of travel.
Along with a five percent discount along the entire Thruway system, E-ZPass offers a variety of additional discount plans and payment options to fit the needs of every motorist. Customers can sign up for plans such as Pay Per Trip, which is linked to a bank account, not a credit card, and pays all the tolls incurred once per day. There are numerous other commuter plans, resident discount plans and vehicle discount plans available to choose from. Customers can also pay their account by credit card, bank account, check or money order.
