NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Six members of The College of New Rochelle Blue Angels swim team competed at the Metropolitan Swimming Collegiate Championships this past weekend. The meet saw nine team records, 11 personal best times, 17 season’s best times, and one Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference qualifying time achieved.
The women were represented by Alexandra Czarkosky (Cheshire, CT) and Chloe Wang. Alexandra Czarkosky swam personal best times in the 50yd Freestyle and the 200yd Freestyle. Chloe Wang swam season’s best times in the same events, just missing out on setting the school record in the 200yd Freestyle.
The men were represented by Kameron Westerberg (Casper, Wyoming), Yashua Lockhart-Derry (Tuckahoe, NY), Aaron Williams (White Plains, NY), and Robert Weyhrauch (Bronx, NY). Together, they were able to finish twelfth overall in the field of 19 teams that competed.
The foursome got together and swam a total of five relays over the weekend, setting records in three of them. The 200yd Medley Relay record was set in prelims and then reset again in the finals with a time of 1:44.65 and the team placed thirteenth overall. The 400yd Medley Relay record was set with 3:55.90 as the team placed fourteenth. The 800yd Freestyle Relay placed twelfth, as did the 400yd Freestyle Relay. The highest placing came in the 200yd Freestyle Relay, as the team was eleventh in the prelims and moved up a spot to tenth at finals.
Individually, Yashua Lockhart-Derry was the first swimmer to make an individual final, finishing 22nd in the 100yd Backstroke event. Lockhart-Derry also swam personal best times in the 200yd Backstroke, 200yd Individual Medley and the 100yd Butterfly.
Aaron Williams swam a personal best time leading off the 400yd Freestyle Relay. He also swam a season best time in both the 100yd Backstroke and the 200yd Backstroke.
Robert Weyhrauch swam a personal best time in the 50yd Freestyle.
On the last event of the day, freshman Kameron Westerberg time trialed the 50yd Freestyle and made the ECAC Championship qualifying time, becoming the first swimmer in school history to qualify for the meet. With this performance in the 100yd Freestyle, Westerberg also has a “B” cut, giving him a second event to swim at ECAC Championships. Westerberg also swam a personal best time in the 100yd Butterfly.
The ECAC Championships will take place on February 23-25 at Rutgers University
