PELHAM, NY — On Wednesday, March 28th at 7:30 p.m. The Picture House Regional Film Center (TPH) will host a special screening of the Oscar-nominated film, The Post, followed by a discussion with George Freeman, the former Assistant General Counsel for The New York Times and current Executive Director of the Media Law Resource Center. Prior to the event Picture House members will be invited to an exclusive, complimentary cocktail reception at a private Pelham home within walking distance to the theater.

The Post, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks, is a thrilling drama about the unlikely partnership between The Washington Post’s Katharine Graham (Streep), the first female publisher of a major American newspaper, and editor Ben Bradlee (Hanks), as they race to catch up with The New York Times to expose a massive cover-up of government secrets that spanned three decades and four U.S. Presidents. The film was nominated for Best Picture and Streep received her twenty-first Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her portrayal of Graham.

Pelham resident George Freeman is Executive Director of the Media Law Resource Center. A well-known speaker on media and First Amendment issues, Freeman was for 31 years Assistant General Counsel of the New York Times Company, where he was at the forefront of numerous high-profile cases for the company and its affiliated businesses. He is the William J. Brennan Visiting Professor at the Columbia Journalism School, teaches at New York University and CUNY’s Graduate School of Journalism, and has led or participated in many media groups. Freeman is also the founder and co-chair of the American Bar Association’s Forum on Communications Law annual conference. He is a graduate of Amherst and the Harvard Law School.
