WHITE PLAINS, NY — AJC Westchester/Fairfield to Honor Stephen Lowey with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the AJC L’Dor V’Dor Gala at the Ritz Carlton New York, Westchester, Thursday, May 10, 2018. AJC CEO David Harris will present the Award. Remarks by Congresswoman Nita Lowey, and Regional President Richard W. Cohen. Keynote address by Seffi Kogen, AJC Director of Campus Affairs.
AJC Westchester/Fairfield announced it will be awarding a Lifetime of Distinguished Leadership Award to Stephen Lowey, a longtime resident of Westchester and a pillar of the community. The program will focus on the L’Dor V’Dor – from Generation to Generation – and will feature a keynote presentation by Seffi Kogen, AJC Director of Campus Affairs. Dinner Chair, Marvin Israelow, will emcee the evening and AJC CEO David Harris will present the award to Mr. Lowey. Additional remarks will be made by Steve Lowey’s wife, Congresswoman Nita Lowey, and Regional President Richard W. Cohen.
The Gala will take place at the Ritz Carlton New York, Westchester Hotel in White Plains on May 10th starting at 6:00 p.m. Limited press passes available.
Stephen Lowey was born in 1933, and he grew up in St. Albans, Queens. A graduate of Woodmere Academy, Harvard College, and Columbia Law School, Steve served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve and as Assistant U.S. Attorney, Eastern District of New York, before co-founding Lowey Dannenberg P.C., of which he is Chair Emeritus, Counsel. He has been a longtime member of AJC’s Board of Governors and is a member of BILLA, AJC’s Arthur and Rochelle Belfer Institute for Latino and Latin American Affairs. BILLA is a unique initiative that strengthens the Jewish community’s bonds of friendship with growing U.S. Latino communities and the countries of Latin America, Spain, and Portugal. Steve is also a trustee and former Board Chair of World Learning and the Experiment in International Living, and is a long member of JCCH in Harrison. Steve and his wife, Nita, have three children and eight grandchildren.
Steve’s service to AJC, the Jewish people, and human rights for all has made a great impact on society and has been an inspiration to the many who act to follow in his footsteps.
