NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A junior at New Rochelle High School has died, according to an email from the City School District of New Rochelle.
In a joint statement from Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian Osborne and New Rochelle High School Principal Reggie Richardson, the two school leaders announced that a New Rochelle High School junior took her own life.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the student,” said Osborne.
Osborne and Richardson urged anyone struggling with depression to seek out the help of a school counselor or contact the National Suicide Hotline at 800-273-TALK (8255).
“This is a time for the school community to come together,” said Osborne in a message to students. “We want you to know that we will continue to help in any way that we can.”
Members of the District’s Crisis Response Team are available to meet with students individually or in groups over the coming days and weeks. Although classes are not in session for Regents examinations the high school building will be open all week for those students who need support.”
