New Rochelle Fire Station No. 2 Closes for Repairs

Written By: Talk of the Sound News

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — As part of the City of New Rochelle’s ongoing Capital Improvement Program, an overhaul of Fire Station 2 has begun. The station, located on Webster Avenue, closed last Friday and the two companies- Ladder 12 and Engine 22- have relocated to nearby firehouses: Ladder 12 to Drake Avenue and Engine 22 to Harrison Street. Response time is expected to remain similar and ambulance service will not be affected.

Built in 1923, the station has received upgrades over the years but needs a major overhaul to accommodate modern firefighting equipment. Repairs are extensive both inside and out and are expected to take approximately one year to complete. Exterior improvements include a new roof, windows and the replacement of two single doors with a wide double bay. Interior upgrades include replacing the apparatus floor, relocating the staircase, and stabilizing and improving the foundation walls along with new HVAC.

“When finished, these repairs and upgrades will enable our personnel to deliver fire department services more quickly and efficiently,” noted Fire Chief Lou DiMeglio.

“Thanks to our expanded capital budget, we can undertake infrastructure improvement projects like this that are so desperately needed,” said City Manager Chuck Strome. “We will work hard to maintain the best service levels for the duration of repairs.”
