NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Hundreds of mourners are expected for the funeral Monday of New Rochelle police officer Kathleen O’Connor. A funeral mass will be held Monday morning at Holy Family Church in New Rochelle.
O’Connor died Thursday after a long battle with a 9/11 related illness..
After the September 11th Terrorist Attack of the World Trade Center, Officer O’Connor responded to Ground Zero to assist with the rescue and recovery efforts. She volunteered her time to help other first responders sift through the debris piles.
Officer O’Connor began her career in January 1998, and was most recently assigned as the Warrant Officer in the Department’s Criminal Investigations Division.
“Kathy was an exemplary police officer, and will be sorely missed by those who knew her,” said New Rochelle Police Commissioner Joseph Schaller. “the Department’s thoughts and prayers are with Kathy’s husband, Anthony Funigiello, and family.”
Kathleen O’Connor-Funigiello former resident of New Rochelle, current resident of Connecticut passed away on August 16, 2018 at the age of 56.
Kathleen was born on April 9, 1962 in New Rochelle to the late John and Emily (Faherty) O’Connor.
Kathleen worked for over 10 years at the New Rochelle Board of Education after which she worked for the New Rochelle Police Department where she was a 20-year veteran.
She is survived by her husband Anthony Funigiello; her siblings Brigid O’Connor, Mary (Bill) Jordan, Patrick (Jean) O’Connor, Colleen (Stew) MacGonigle and Amy (David) Rivera; her step-children Frank Funigiello, Elaine Muller and Ann Marie Nicoletti; her nieces and nephews: Emily, Eliza, Matthew, Daniel, J.T. and Devon.

Wake: Sunday August 19th from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm at Lloyd Maxcy Funeral Home at 16 Shea Place, New Rochelle, NY.
Funeral Mass: Monday August 20th at 10:30 am at Holy Family Church at 83 Clove Road, New Rochelle, NY.
Parking will be available at the Iona College parking lot located at the dead end of Summit Avenue, along Mayflower Avenue, along Clove Road, along Mount Joy Place.
Internment: Holy Sepulchre Cemetery at 75 Kings Highway in New Rochelle, NY.
