NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Youth Bureau hosted their annual Youth Employment Recognition Ceremony on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Sixty-eight youth residents ages 14-21 were recognized and presented with certificates for their summer employment. The Youth Bureau provided summer jobs in three programs: Network Youth Leadership Program, TANF Summer Employment Program, and Potential Candidates Summer Intern Program. With an additional forty-three youth employed with the City School District, the total youth served this summer numbers one hundred eleven.
“It’s our responsibility as leaders in our communities to create a path forward for the next generation,” said Youth Bureau’s Executive Director, Kelly Johnson. “Thanks to our worksite and funding partners, we were able to offer this experience to a good number of our young people.”
Summer employees were placed at various worksites throughout the City including City Hall (Assessor’s Office, Bureau of Buildings, Finance Department and Parks & Recreation Department) City Court, Garito Manor at Union Square, Hour to Exit, Little Beehive, Monroe College, New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce, New Rochelle Public Library, NRBA-Summer Basketball League, Preschool Learning Center, Willow Towers Assisted Living and Youth Bureau – Middle School Drop In Programs. In addition to regular work hours, the youth participated in mentoring, resume-building and job-training activities.
