PELHAM, NY — Pelham Art Center is thrilled to have award winning percussionist, singer, dancer, actress, and teacher Alessandra Belloni perform for our folk arts program. Choreographer and teacher Francesca Silvano will also teach and dance. Belloni travels worldwide to perform group and solo concerts in theaters, universities, and international percussion festivals and on Sunday, 9/30 she will be here at PAC! After the performance there will be a workshop on tissue paper stained glass technique by Sylivia Vigliani.
Belloni began her career in her native Rome with the great actress Anna Magnani in “La Lupa,” and with legendary film director Federico Fellini in “Casanova.” She is artistic director and leading performer of I Giullari di Piazza, an ensemble of musicians, vocalists, and dancers that specializes in authentic Southern Italian music and theater events, dating back to the 13th century. The group is artists in residence at the Cathedral of St John the Divine.
Belloni is a REMO artist and designer of her signature series of Italian tambourines; she is also author of the book & DVD “Rhythm is the Cure,” published by Mel Bay. As the only artist in the world who specializes in Southern Italian tambourines combined with singing and dance, Belloni was selected as one of the best percussionists in the world by DRUM! Magazine. She has also been acclaimed in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, featured in Modern Drummer and Percussive Notes among others.
Sylvia Vigliani will be teaching the workshop on tissue paper stained glass. Sylvia is inspired by ancient and classical themes like Italian stained glass and seeks to tie it with current methods and materials that everyone can enjoy. This technique is colorful and fun and will create wonderful decorations for your windows.
