NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The following are some highlights from the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, September 25:
Residency Verification: The process will move to Albert Leonard Middle School starting Monday, Oct. 1, to register that school’s students, as planned, Residency Verification Project Manager Dr. Charles Coletti announced. On Monday, there is a delayed start of classes, which does not affect residency verification. Coletti and the three trained registrars will begin processing documents at 8 a.m. His plan anticipates that he and the registrars can verify the residency of 60 students each day. At that pace, they can complete the process for all schools by June 19.
Construction Update: In August, the New York State Education Department approved Phase III of the four-phase $106.5 million bond construction work. Phase II is wrapping up this fall. Phase III, scheduled to begin next summer, will include work at Albert Leonard Middle School and three elementary schools – Columbus, Trinity and Jefferson. The District expects building permits for Phase IV late next year.
Strategic Roadmap: The Board began a discussion about the Strategic Roadmap for the district that was adopted in December, 2016. While it was too early to settle on updates and other changes, Superintendent Dr. Brian Osborne suggested adding residency verification and security infrastructure to the goals of the plan that sets the District’s mission, core beliefs, vision, direction and objectives. Board members added before/after school activities and students’ engagement.
Social and Emotional Learning: Interim Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services Amy Goodman discussed the District’s focus on Social and Emotional Learning and how the approach is incorporated into the curriculum and instruction.
