NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A 14 year old student is accused of having a gravity knife in School last Thursday. It fell out of his bag and was recovered by a Teacher, according to New Rochelle Police.

“At no time was any student menaced or threatened, and the knife was never displayed,” said New Rochelle Police Captain Cosmo Costa.

The Youth surrendered at Police Headquarters this morning and was booked for Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree and released to a Parent, with the case referred to Family Court.

A gravity knife is a knife with a blade contained in its handle, and which opens its blade by the force of gravity.

Six weeks ago, a 13-year old student at Isaac E. Young Middle School was arrested by New Rochelle Police on charges of Menacing and Attempted Assault following an incident with a knife on January 30th.

In 2018, Bryan Stamps was arrested by the FBI in Alabama after months as a fugitive after he stabbed a fellow student during Spanish class at New Rochelle High School. Stamps later plead guilty and was sentenced as a Juvenile Offender to one to three years in state prison for Assault in the First Degree, a class B felony.

In 2016, Stamps had previously been expelled from school after he stabbed a student at Isaac E. Young Middle School.

Stamps was assaulted the day before the 2018 stabbing at a pizza restaurant near New Rochelle High School by students walking back from the New Rochelle City Court following the arraignment of Z’inah Brown.

Brown was charged with murder for stabbing another student at the Dunkin’ Donuts not far from the high school. Dominique Slack and Carl Booker were also charged for related crimes and plead guilty. Brown’s case is still pending.

School officials did not respond to requests for comment.
