NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The day after what school district employees are describing as a “mini riot” involving 25-30 students near New Rochelle High School, New Rochelle Police have increased their presence in and around the school.
There were reports of five Officers in the building earlier today and two Officers in cars outside the building.
“At 1521 hours, an altercation occurred on Eastchester Road & North Avenue, involving what appeared to be youths from New Rochelle High School,” said New Rochelle Police Captain Cosmo Costa. “This altercation continued at 720 North Avenue (McDonald’s Restaurant) before the group was dispersed.”
“At 1721 hours, Officers responded to Colonel Lee Archer on a report of a group fighting. Upon arrival, Officers observed a group, some of who were physically fighting and others who were attempting to break up the fight. Two males, aged 20, were arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest during this altercation.”
“At 1855 hours, Officers responded to Colonel Lee Archer on another report of a group fighting. The group dispersed upon the arrival of Officers.”
“Two uniformed Officers were assigned to the School today,” said Costa.
Talk of the Sound has asked school officials for further information.
UPDATE 3 PM: Extra police Officers on at New Rochelle High School and Isaac E. Young Middle School. 2 officers on at Clove Road near Embassy entrance. 1 officer on at Eastchester and White Oak. 6 Youth Bureau and School Security on at McDonalds. Extra school security inside Embassy entrance. Students being dismissed now. Police say “everything orderly at this time”.
Still no response from school officials.
