NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle Police just left Albert Leonard Middle School after taking another report of Swastika at the school. This one in the same boy’s bathroom as the first two.
So far there have been a total of 9 Swastikas reported: 3 at New Rochelle High School, 1 at Isaac E. Young Middle School and 5 at Albert Leonard Middle School. Five of the nine have been disclosed by the school district.
Today’s incident is the first at Albert Leonard Middle School since March 15th when ALMS Principal John Barnes announced his school would no longer disclose hate-crime incidents at high school.
UPDATE 3/29: “A two inch swastika, written with blue ink was found on a first floor bathroom wall at Albert Leonard Junior Middle School,” said New Rochelle Police Captain Cosmo Costa.
UPDATE 3/31: News12 quoted “the President of Beth El Synagogue in New Rochelle” without saying the President of Beth El is Mark Seidenfeld.
“We’re heartbroken and angry to hear of this latest incident and that these terrible displays of antisemitism have been recurring in our community…we hope that all parents use this as an opportunity to speak to their children about the pain and horrors inflicted on the Jewish community as antisemitism.”
To our knowledge it took NINE swastikas before any organization in New Rochelle’s Jewish Community issued a public statement.
