NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Two suspects, both male Hispanics, are in police custody after a police chase in the leafy Beechmont neighborhood of New Rochelle ended with a crash near Beechmont Lake.

New Rochelle Police Detective Sergeant Kevin Perri said an older resident was the apparent victim of a scam. The person became suspicious and called police who were quickly able to identify the car.

The vehicle, a black Acura TL with New Jersey plates, attempted to escape but the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into bushes in front of a house on Beechmont Avenue.

The incident ended two houses down from a house previously owned by NRPD Police Commissioner Patrick Carroll, and two blocks from a house owned by New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson.

No injuries were reported.

“At about 2pm we received a call off a possible fraud,” said New Rochelle Police Captain Cosmo Costa. “A Sergeant happened to be several blocks away, responded and followed the suspect vehicle, which tried to flee the area and crashed into shrubs at Beechmont & Pinebrook.”

“The 2 suspects posed as bail bondsmen, and relayed to the victim that her grandson had been arrested and needed $6500 bail,” said Costa. “As the suspects were at the victims residence she had second thoughts and called the Police.”

Luis Miguel Rojas aged 24 of the Bronx and Breidi Jose Torres Jr aged 21 of the Bronx charged with Attempted Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, and face additional charges pending further investigation.
