Man Stabbed on Main Street in New Rochelle, Sources

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Police are not commenting on an incident this morning where a man was seriously injured on the sidewalk between Main Street and The Hollows basketball court.

There is an active investigation underway following what sources say was a stabbing of a man by a woman shortly before 9 a.m. on Main Street near Echo Avenue.

The man ended up against a lamp post in a pool of his own blood on the sidewalk. Paramedics rushed the victim to an area hospital.

Traffic was backed up on Main Street and Echo Avenue as police briefly closed off the intersection before a police officer began to direct traffic around the scene.

The police closed off the area on the sidewalk as a crime scene.

Patrols cars were canvassing the area.

UPDATE 2:45 PM (NRPD OFFICIAL): New Rochelle Police Sergeant Kimberly Deniz told Talk of the Sound she did not have much information to release as the matter is an active crime investigation. She gave the location as 361 Main Street, time of 8:47 a.m., that the victim of the stabbing is male. She did not provide medical status on victim; there is a single suspect but police are not providing a description of suspect at this time.

UPDATE 6:05 PM (NRPD OFFICIAL): New Rochelle Police Deputy Commissioner Robert Gazzola tells Talk of the Sound a 38-year old Hispanic/Male was stabbed in the back at 8:37 a.m. as he walked down Main Street.

“The victim was taken to a local hospital in serious condition,” said Gazzola.

“It is unknown if the victim knew the subject, if there was a relationship between the victim and the subject.”

Gazzola said police continue to investigate and will release further information.
