NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Louis Florimon, 21 of the Bronx, is facing a slew of felony charges after he fled New Rochelle Police with a handgun stolen in Florida and was arrested by Pelham Manor Police but not before injuring a police officer, flipping his vehicle and crashing into two other vehicles before being extracted from the vehicle and taken to a local hospital.
Florimon was booked in absentia on charges of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree, Assault 2nd degree, Criminal Possession Stolen Property 4th degree, Unlawful fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd degree, and Driving While Intoxicated 1st Offense.
New Rochelle Police Officers responded to McDonald’s at 280 Main Street at 4:16 a.m. Friday morning on a report of a man asleep at the drive through. Upon arrival, officers observed a black Mercedes occupied by Floriman.
According to New Rochelle police, officers attempted to wake Floriman, but he appeared intoxicated. Shortly after he woke, Officers were able to open his driver’s side door for further interview. Officers then observed what appeared to be a barrel of a handgun under his thigh, at which time Officers attempted to remove Mr. Florimon from the vehicle to place him under arrest. A Police Officer sustained an injury at his time.
Mr. Florimon was able to put the vehicle in drive and fled at a high speed. New Rochelle Police Officers did not pursue the vehicle. A broadcast was made to surrounding Police Departments.
A short time later, Pelham Manor Police Department advised that the vehicle had rolled over and struck two other vehicles at Boston Post Road And Pelhamdale Avenue.
When Pelham Manor Police Department Officers extracted Floriman from the vehicle a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun, reported stolen out of Florida, with a fully loaded magazine was recovered. Mr. Florimon was then transported to Jacobi Hospital as he sustained non-life-threatening injuries from the accident.
