NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Domenic Procopio died last night. He had been ill for the past few months.

Further details funeral arrangements are expected to be announced later today. We have requested a statement from the City of New Rochelle and the Westchester County Clerk.

Procopio was appointed as a Civil Service Commissioner by then-Mayor Tim Idoni on July 21, 1988 then Chairman of the Civil Service Commission on January 26, 1992, a position he retained until his death last night.

“I want to extend my heartfelt condolences to the Domenic Procopio Family,” said Bishop Fetson Leak who has served for years with Procopio on the Civil Service Commission. “It has been a pleasure and an honor having “Dom” as a friend and colleague. New Rochelle and especially City Hall is left with a void that is impossible to fill. His smile and words of encouragement for the people of New Rochelle was beyond measure.”

“As Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, he valued and respected your opinion and was always respected for his. A man of integrity who was always committed to a life of service to his fellowman,” Leak added. “Take your rest Domenic from your labor, your reward awaits you.”

The Civil Service Commission meeting scheduled for 3 p.m. on Wednesday December 16th has been cancelled.

Procopio served for many years as President of the Calabria Mutual Aid Society.
