NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The roof at the Mavis Discount Tire store on North Avenue in New Rochelle suffered a partial ceiling collapse at about 2 p.m. on Thursday.
No injuries have been reported.
Building Inspectors from the City of New Rochelle were on scene Thursday to assess the structural integrity of the building. Portions of the ceiling are being held up by car lifts inside.
Structural engineers are expected to be on scene Friday to determine if the building can be salvaged or demolished.
The damage is believe to have been brought on by last night’s Nor’easter Winter Storm Gail.
UPDATE 12/18: Structural engineers hired by building owner conclude structure must be demolished.

UPDATE 12/20:,The building owner applied for a building permit to demolish the building on Friday and began demolition on Saturday.
