The far more open and inclusive hiring process led by Board President Rachel Relkin represents a radical departure from the secretive, failed process led by former Board President Jeffrey Hastie.
The Hastie fiasco resulted in arguably the worst hire in the history of the City School District of New Rochelle.
Dr. Laura Feijóo was widely reviled almost immediately after she was announced by Hastie as the new Superintendent on June 28, 2018. Within minutes word got out that she was part of a $90 million “reverse discrimination” lawsuit. Within days of her official start date on November 1, 2019, she suspended head football coach Lou DiRienzo setting off a profound backlash. By the summer of 2020 she was gone, leaving New Rochelle with a $275,000 buy out package.
