NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle Police and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office are investigating multiple shooting incidents in New Rochelle with one fatality and one life-threatening injury.

The shooting began shortly before midnight Saturday and continued into the early hours of Sunday morning.

The first shooting incident took place near Heritage Homes, the second in the West End and the third in the Hollow.

On May 1st, at approximately 11:56 p.m., New Rochelle Police received multiple reports of shots fired near Horton Avenue and Brook Street.

Responding units found that five adult males who were attending a gathering at the incident location had been shot.

One victim, M D Andersonkerny Jr., 29 of Brooklyn, was shot in the neck and was subsequently pronounced deceased by Ambulance Personnel.

UPDATE 5/8/21: Newly released LLN NYC video shows Andersonkerny’s body on Lincoln Avenue near North Avenue. Andersonkerny had parked his vehicle behind the New Rochelle Farms grocery store before the shooting; his body was left on Lincoln Avenue by his friends who were attempting to carry Andersonkerny to the car to drive him to the hospital, sources say.

A second victim was shot in his back, and was transported to an area Hospital where he underwent surgery.

The three other victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to Hospital personnel.

Two .223 casings (rifle rounds) were recovered.

On May 2nd, at approximately 12:59 a.m., New Rochelle Police received multiple reports of shots fired near 361 Main Street.

Subsequent investigation revealed that an unknown suspect(s), while standing in the courtyard, fired multiple rounds, striking third, fourth, and fifth floor windows.

Ten 9 mm casings were recovered.

It is unknown if the two incidents are related.

On May 1st, at approximately 12:29 a.m., New Rochelle Police Officers responded on a call of shots fired at a moving pickup truck near Union Avenue and Fourth Street approximately 35 minutes in the past. Upon searching the area, two 9 mm shell casings were recovered. Neither the pickup truck nor the shooter have been located or identified.

New Rochelle Police Detectives and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office are conducting a follow-up investigation, and anyone with information is urged to call New Rochelle Police at 914-654-2300.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The recovery of two .223 casings at Horton Avenue and Brook Street is concerning as those are rifle rounds with a far higher level of stopping power than a .22 or . 9 mm round fired from a pistol, the type of casings most often recovered at the scene of gang-related shooting incidents. A .223 round will achieve velocities of about 2500fps.

“The details of this crime highlights an important point that .223 round casings were found at the scene,” said LCDR Brett Morash US Navy (Ret.). “This is not a .22 caliber pistol but a high power military and hunting cartridge used in assault rifle systems; such as the ubiquitous M-16/M-4 series.”

“In my professional opinion, as a former US Navy Weapons Officer, we should all worry that such high velocity rounds are being used in criminality in our City,” said Morash. “They are indiscriminate and will fly far and penetrate deep.”

  1. Former Sarge,
I am currently sitting in this young man’s funeral as I know his mother and his sisters as his mother was an amazing support for me when I was a NYC principal. Though I did not know him personally I am sitting here blown away by who this young man who has worked in food pantries since he was 8 years old but I am not surprised based on the nature of his mother and sisters.

The ministers he worked with in various food pantries and the community came out to testify about this kind, giving soul that stayed out of trouble, gave generously and loved his family. What has brought me to tears is the number of young men that got up to speak to share that while they were in the neighborhood running wild and doing craziness while Markus was the kid that literally helped old ladies across the street.

Your comments are not only insensitive but mean spirit and based on you stereotyping someone you don’t know. That is prejudice.

Here is what I will pray regarding you:

God bless Former Sarge by sending your Holy Spirit to bring him to conversion, repentance and salvation. I pray for his heart Lord that it would be filled with Love for You God, love for himself and love for others, especially for those that he doesn’t know. Remove racism from his heart Lord. In Jesus’ name.
    Amen.

  2. Don’t confuse the BLM activists, media and politicians with the community. They are not the same. They don’t care. The COMMUNITY cares as you can see from the comments.

  3. Thank you. He was always respectful & our family WILL miss him. It DOES matter to our community when any life is lost, but this one hurts way deep.

  4. Some of the opinions about the guy killed are a little disappointed just know! This doesn’t and nor should it justify for a lost life ! He had respect for the law ! He worked at a Neighborhood church that and loved basketball! That came second to his faith in god! He would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need ! He always helped and checked in with the elders in his community They lost a grandson ! He was in the wrong place at the wrong time ! We lost a friend ! This is a tragedy we are hurting in Brooklyn with this loss ! If anyone didn’t deserve this it was Marcus

  5. Have some respect you SCUM… let this family loved one Rest In Peace instead of bringing up your political agendas…:

  6. If you actually knew Marcus he wasn’t even a bad guy ! He worked in a neighborhood church and helped out his community when ever he could !He wasn’t a thug or a drug dealer ! He was a Good Guy! He’d give the shirt off his back to anyone in need ! Marcus always had a basketball with him which was his passion only second to his Faith! Please don’t make this into a deep life lesson that you think you are equipped to comment on. Marcus was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time ! This is a tragedy in our community! He had respect for the police as well but you wouldn’t know that because you made it quite clear that even in tragedy your racist ideas get the best of you ! God Bless you

  7. The victim’s family can be comforted by the fact the shooter wasn’t a police officer. He must have felt great peace in that as he drifted off, which was immediately replaced by the reality that his life won’t matter to the community. Let that be a lesson. If you want your life to matter to the community, do something that will make you get shot by police.

  8. Thank god for all our first responders , who put themselves in harms way to save others!!!!

  9. Uncle Noam surrendered that part of the city to Hendo months ago. Blame him for the outcome.

  10. But if the police were over there enforcing all the violations you say, then everyone would claim harassment and racism.

  11. Time to have a republican mayor and governor plz!!! Democrats are no good we need republicans!! Democrats are taking away our rights as American citizens and giving all our rights to criminals! Can’t be dealing with this bs no more!

  12. Unfortunately, NRPD and other officials allow gambling, drug dealing, public drinking, etc on that corner day and night. On any nice day anyone can drive or walk through and observe this. NR officials are spending more time trying to attract higher income people to the city instead of dealing with the issues that have previously existed.

  13. Unnerving!!!!!! Handguns are serious but an assault rifle is extremely dangerous. I’m afraid to drive past this area due to crossfire. Not a happy place to live.
