Powerful Documentary on Chicago Gun Violence Playing at Regal New Roc for Limited Run

Written By: Robert Cox

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Author and Producer Dimas and his wife Tiffany Salaberrios, stars of Chicago America’s Hidden War, addressed the audience at a special screening of the film at Regal New Roc last night. The documentary film will run until Thursday.

Pastor Dimas, previously known as “Daylight” on the streets of New York City, knows first-hand the reality of gun violence, and it shows in the film as he meets with both the victims of gun violence and the shooters.

Salaberrios reports that 1,500 to 1,700 shooters are primarily responsible for the devastating toll gun violence has wreaked havoc in Chicago. Since 1992, 10,300 were killed in Chicago when compared to the 6,888 killed in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars combined.

(note: the credits with audio were rolling as Pastor Dimas spoke, the music is a bit loud; then the lights were out).

“It’s key that we change this narrative. People are dying,” stated Dimas. “If we can do something to stop someone from killing another person, I can’t turn a blind eye to that. Our hope is that this film will stir up people to get engaged and get involved.”

The film received Academy Award Consideration for Best Documentary Film.

The film runs at Regal New Rochelle from May 28 to June 2 (1 pm, 4 pm, 7 pm, 9:40 pm)

Minister Mark McLean, Minutes Angela Farrish were on hand last night for the special screening funded by the City of New Rochelle and hosted by the New Rochelle Clergy Rapid Response Team & African American Advisory Committee.
