Uber Driver Stabbed in Downtown New Rochelle, Police Looking for 3 Suspects

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — An Uber drive was stabbed twice in broad daylight in downtown New Rochelle. The incident occurred at North Avenue and Huguenot Street.

The driver was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx.

UPDATE 9:10 PM: “The victim is said to have non-life threatening superficial wounds,” says NRPD spokesperson.

The matter is currently being worked on by detectives and a formal press release is forthcoming.

Police and K-9 units are were canvassing the area for three suspects.

A witness says two male suspects, one female suspect got into an argument with the driver in front of the Tower Cafe at 271 North, the Kaufman building. After a suspect stabbed the driver, they ran off. All 3 suspects are said to be in custody.

UPDATE 6:35 PM: NRPD says they cannot release information at this time because the incident is “ongoing”.

UPDATE 9:10 PM: NRPD can confirm a stabbing occurred, multiple suspects are in custody. No further details. Press release “forthcoming”.

UPDATE 9:20 PM: Uber has yet not respond to a request for a statement made this afternoon.

UPDATE 3:40 AM: NRPD says still no further information.

UPDATE 8:39 AM: NRPD states a total of 4 people were detained, 2 male and 2 female. The person charged with assault with a knife is one of the female juveniles. She was charged then released due to her age. Two other individuals, both males, were detained in the immediate vicinity shortly after the assault and found to be carrying loaded firearms. Both males were charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, a violent felony. The guns were not used in the assault. A full statement with full details is expected later today.
