NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle Firefighters spent more than an hour fighting a stubborn car fire at the end of the ramp of Exit 16 on Garden Street.
The driver of the vehicle, who asked not to be identified, said his 1996 Lincoln Mark VIII began smoking about a half mile before he reached Exit 16 driving northbound on I-95. He exited the vehicle as the car caught fire.
As thick black smoke billowed into the sky, New Rochelle firefighters arrived on scene.
The driver said the gas tank was full.
After hitting the car with water spread the gasoline under and around the car, firefighters ran a second line with foam.
