NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital today unveiled an expanded and reconfigured Emergency Department, a renovated and upgraded Radiology Department and a newly constructed Montefiore Medical Group Health Center. The $44.3 million campus project, funded in full by the Capital Restructuring Financing Program awarded by New York State, continues to ensure the very best, state-of-the-art care is provided to New Rochelle and its surrounding communities – both within the hospital and outside its doors.
“What we have unveiled here today was five years in the making and is focused completely on serving the diverse medical needs of New Rochelle residents and those in our surrounding communities,” said Tony Alfano, Vice President and Executive Director, Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital. “New York State recognized our role in providing and sustaining essential health services to our community. This project is an exemplary reflection of the New York State Health Department’s goals with respect to healthcare accessibility as it will preserve and significantly expand primary and specialty care capacity and expand Emergency and Radiology services and availability throughout the communities we serve.”
“These state-of-the-art facilities at Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital will help us deliver on our mission of providing innovative healthcare from world class leaders, while advancing health equity and access in this community,” said Philip O. Ozuah, M.D., Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer, Montefiore Medicine.
On hand, State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, State Senator Shelley Mayer, State Assemblyperson Steve Otis, Westchester County Executive George Latimer, and Mayor Noam Bramson.
As one of the busiest Emergency Departments in lower Westchester County, the Emergency Department now features: a new lobby, registration and waiting area; eight private observation rooms; a trauma treatment area; four private patient rooms including a dedicated private OB/GYN room; 21 private patient bays for pediatric and adult patients; a dedicated private Behavioral Health treatment area and a separate, dedicated results waiting area. The Emergency Department, now totaling 14,000 square feet, was completed in two phases to avoid care disruptions.
The newly renovated Radiology Suite features a 1.5 short bore MRI as well as a 64 and 16 slice CT scanner. The new equipment will lead to quicker turnaround time on imaging results, key to determining clinical treatment protocols for patients. The suite is now conveniently accessed from the Emergency Department lobby, reducing the number of people in the Emergency Department waiting area and providing more privacy in both locations.
The 25,000 square foot MMG Health Center is the result of a total gut renovation of the former Montefiore New Rochelle Clinic. The new Center now stands as a modern facility with primary pediatric and adult care, in addition to women’s health, orthopedics, podiatry, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology/oncology and rheumatology services. The Center, which provides healthcare to develop and maintain health for all generations, focuses on meeting the specific needs of each individual patient and provides seamless access to the full range of healthcare services available from Montefiore Health System.
The renovated campus, which was completed in phases, officially opened to the community in September.
