New York State Legislature Redistricting Plan Splits Sound Shore, Moves Most into Long Island

ALBANY, NY — The New York Legislature has released a proposal to redraw New York State’s Congressional Map. The proposal is expected to pass in the Assembly and State Senate and be signed into law by Governor Kathy Hochul on Wednesday.

The maps were drawn by the Democratically controlled New York Legislature after the state’s new Independent Redistricting Commission failed to agree on a redistricting plan.

See the maps and data here.

The plan would carve the Sound Shore region in two.

Most of the Sound Shore region including Port Chester, Rye Brook, Rye, Mamaroneck, Larchmont, New Rochelle (South End, East End), Pelham and Pelham Manor is appended to the North Shore of Long Island in Nassau County. Congressional District 3 would also include parts of the Bronx and Queens. Congressional District 3 is currently represented by Thomas Suozzi.

The remainder of the Sound Shore region, meaning the West End and North End of New Rochelle, will be in Congressional District 14 which would now run from the Bronx up to Putnam County. Congressional District 14 is currently represented by Jamaal Bowman.

  1. What a joke, splitting New Rochelle into two districts and combining very different socio-economic areas, all to secure positions, party lines and votes. Yet, asking for a license is racist and a deterant in the election process. What a sham
