After Bronx Baby Shower, New Rochelle Man Shot, Killed; Brother Grabs Gun, Kills Shooter, Now Charged with Murder

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Wayne Smith, 28, of 17 Coligni Avenue in New Rochelle, NY has been arrested by the New York Police Department and charged with Murder and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

Wayne Smith is alleged to have shot in the torso and killed Arnold Oliver, 24, of 205 Nelson Avenue in Peekskill, NY.

Oliver is alleged to have shot in the face and killed Jamal Smith, 28, of 17 Coligni Avenue in New Rochelle, NY.

The incident took place just across the Metro-North train tracks from Fordham Preparatory School in the Bedford Park section of the Bronx. A dispute arose following a baby shower at a nearby location.

On Saturday, February 12, 2022, at approximately 10:54 pm, police responded to a 911 call of a man shot at East 198 Street and Webster Avenue, within the confines of the 52 Precinct. Upon arrival, police observed two men in front of 397 East 198 Street: a 24-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the torso and a 28-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the face. EMS also responded and transported both males to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where both males were pronounced deceased. A 28-year-old male was taken into custody with charges pending. A firearm was also recovered.

An additional suspect is being sought by police. Crimestoppers is assisting police.
