BRONX, NY — Three graphic videos, two from what appear to be mobile phone cameras and one from a CCTV video camera, show the moments before, during and after a double-homicide Saturday night in the Bronx.

After Bronx Baby Shower, New Rochelle Man Shot, Killed; Brother Grabs Gun, Kills Shooter, Now Charged with Murder

The incident took place shortly before 11 pm on February 12, 2022, pm, just across the Metro-North train tracks from Fordham Preparatory School in the Bedford Park section of the Bronx. A dispute arose following a baby shower at a nearby location.

The CCTV video shows a physical altercation on East 198 Street just off Webster Avenue in the Bronx involving 7 men that moves from the sidewalk onto the hood of a parked dark gray Infinity sedan. As the men pile on top of the car hood, three men run away as one man, dressed in a black shirt, black pants and black shoes, falls backwards, away from the car and lands face first on the sidewalk then rolls over.

Based on an NYPD statement, the man dressed all in black is Jamal Smith, 28, of 17 Coligni Avenue in New Rochelle, NY. He has been shot in the face by Arnold Oliver, 24, of 205 Nelson Avenue in Peekskill, NY.

As Jamal Smith attempts to get up from the sidewalk— he rolls onto his side, watching the altercation, then rolls back, face up on his back — the struggle continues between Oliver, dressed in light blue pants, a white t-shirt and white sneakers, and two men dressed in black pants and white t-shirts. The three men who had run away return, and another man, dressed in black pants, and an unbuttoned blue winter coat over a light-colored hoodie, walks up to the street-side of the parked car, jumps up on the hood of the car and briefly joins in the altercation.

Oliver struggles, kicking, as he is held down by then two men in black pants and white t-shirts, the man in the blue winter coat is punching Oliver. The three men who ran away rejoin the altercation as the man in the blue winter coat jumps off the car hood and runs away.

The man in the blue winter coat appears to be the suspect police are looking for with the help of crimestoppers.

The CCTV video ends with the two men in black pants and white t-shirts continuing to hold Oliver on his back, pinned down on the hood of the car, the other men are fleeing or already gone, and Jamal Smith is flat on his back on the sidewalk, still moving both arms slightly.

The second video, from a mobile phone, taken directly across the street, inside what appears to be La Rola Restaurant at 400 E. 198th Street, shows Oliver on the street, face up with his arms spread out, his feet on the sidewalk. He appears to have slid off the car after having been shot by Wayne Smith, 28, of 17 Coligni Avenue in New Rochelle, NY. The two men in black pants and white t-shirts are standing next to Oliver. One of the men in black pants and a white t-shirt steps on to the sidewalk. He talks to three other men involved in the altercation.

One of the voices on the video, who appears to be talking to a 911 operator, says, “he’s on the floor, he’s on the floor, and he just shot again”.

The other man in black pants and a white t-shirt, apparently Wayne Smith, points a silver handgun at the head of Oliver but does not appear to pull the trigger. Instead, Wayne Smith, rears back and kicks Oliver hard in the head. Smith stumbles, right’s himself, then brings his foot straight down, hard, on Oliver’s face, stomping his head five times. He stops stomping Oliver as police arrive on scene.

As Smith is stomping Oliver’s face, the other man in black pants and a white t-shirt motions for the three other men to leave. He then grabs Jamal Smith by the shoulders, lifts him into a seated upright position, wraps his arms around him and holds him.

Based on their names, ages and home addresses, it appears Jamal Smith and Wayne Smith may be twin brothers from New Rochelle.

The third video, apparently shot with a mobile phone camera after dozens of police officers have arrived, shows Wayne Smith, in handcuffs, spreadeagled, held face down on the hood of the Infinity sedan, by a police officer. Smith’s white t-shirt is covered in blood. Oliver is motionless on the street under the front of the Infinity sedan. His blue pants are pulled down to his knees, his underwear pulled up around his waist. He appears to be unresponsive. The other man in black pants and a white t-shirt is holding Jamal Smith, also unresponsive, in his arms. As a police officer approaches Jamal Smith, the man in black pants and a white t-shirt holding him says, “don’t touch him” as the officer steps back.

Jamal Smith and Arnold Oliver were transported to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where both men were pronounced deceased.

Wayne Smith was arrested by the New York City Police and charged with Murder and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

An additional suspect, the man in the blue winter coat, is being sought by police.
