Juan Sanchez Hires El Chapo’s Law Firm to Fight Multiple Gun Charges in New Rochelle

Written By: Robert Cox

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Juan Sanchez, arrested on January 25 in New Rochelle on multiple gun charges, is now represented by defense attorney Jeffrey Einhorn of The Law Offices of Jeffrey Lichtman, the law firm that represented El Chapo in his 2019 federal trial as part of a $5 million legal “dream team”.

Recent Lichtman clients include “Thomas Rachko, a retired New York Police detective accused of robbing drug dealers; Jacob Orgad, described by the government as the “largest MDMA (ecstasy) trafficker” ever arrested in the United States; various stars of the music industry including The Game and Fat Joe; AIG executives named in the New York Attorney General’s probe of the insurance industry; John A. Gotti, the son of the infamous mob boss; and Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.”

El Chapo was a former leader within the Sinaloa Cartel, considered one of the most powerful drug traffickers in the world, and ranked #67 on Forbes magazine’s list of the most powerful people in the world in 2013 with an estimated net worth of over $1.2 billion. He retired from drug trafficking and currently resides near Florence, Colorado.

Sanchez was arrested by New Rochelle Police as part of Operation Casper, a wide-ranging, six-month, multi-agency investigation into illegal gun trafficking. At the conclusion of “Operation Casper”, search warrants were executed on January 25, at eight locations in Westchester and Putnam by investigators from County, local, and federal law enforcement agencies. Eleven suspects are now facing state or federal charges after more than 100 weapons were seized.

Sanchez was arrested on January 25, at his family’s home at 81 Highland Avenue, where he lives with his parents. That residence is less than 100 feet from 16 Glen Place, where Tommy Rivera was arrested by New Rochelle Police after a shooting several blocks away that resulted in the death of Julian Oliveros.

Law enforcement sources say there is an ongoing investigation into allegations that Juan Sanchez built the ghost gun that Assistant District Attorney Catalina Blanco Buitrago called “the murder weapon” in a hearing for Tommy Rivera on January 31. Rivera is charged with murdering Julian Oliveros.

The New Rochelle Police Department declined to comment on what are, for now, two separate investigations.
