NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Julian Oliveros, the New Rochelle High School student shot and killed last month in the West End of New Rochelle, was one of four students from Isaac E. Young Middle School charged in 2018 in connection with an arson fire that destroyed the historic Cyrus Lawton House also referred to as Wildcliff, multiple sources have said.

The New Rochelle Police Department declined to comment.

The home was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 31, 2002, and was burned to the foundation on November 26th, 2018.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the fire was suspicious in nature. It was ultimately determined that the fire was the result of arson.

Two weeks after the fire, four then-thirteen-year old youths were arrested by New Rochelle Police and charged as Juvenile Delinquents. The four youths were all students at Isaac E. Young Middle School.

Three of the youths were charged with Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree, a Class B Misdemeanor, and one youth was charged with Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree and Arson 4th Degree, a Class E Felony.

One of the four youths charged was Julian Oliveros, sources say.

We have yet to confirm whether he was the youth charged with felony Arson. We will update this article accordingly should that become known.
