New Jersey Man Crashes in Rye, Arrested at Westchester Medical Center for Leandra’s Law DWI and Endangering the Welfare of a Child

RYE, NY — Jonathan Juarez, 25, of Paterson, NJ was arrested by New York State Police for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child in the Vehicle; a Class E Felony, Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child; both Class A Misdemeanors.

On March 19, 2022, at approximately 1:00 a.m., State Police responded to a report of a personal injury crash on I-287 in the city of Rye. Troopers located a 2019 Dodge Ram pick-up truck approximately 80 feet off the roadway down an earth embankment. After further investigation, it was determined that the driver, Jonathan Juarez, 25, of Paterson, NJ, was intoxicated while traveling with his 9-year-old child. 

Both Juarez and the child were transported by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, where the child was turned over to a relative. 

While at Westchester Medical Center, Juarez voluntarily provided a blood test. He was subsequently arrested.

Juarez was later turned over to a sober third party and was released with appearance tickets returnable to the City of Rye Court on April 26, 2022 at 9:00 a.m.
