NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Board of Education unanimously approved the proposed $298,760,957 City School District of New Rochelle 2022-23 budget was approved, paving the way for a public vote on May 17.

The tax levy increase is 0.98%.

Included with the budget proposal is a bond proposition to provide necessary cash flow to complete post-Hurricane Ida repairs to our high school library, pool, and Isaac E. Young Middle School until the District receives state and federal reimbursement.

Highlights of the proposed $298,760,957 operating budget include:

  • Leveraging pandemic relief dollars to support the addition of 15.2 teaching/staff positions across schools to further address unfinished learning and wellness, including creating a Dean of Students position for each of our middle schools to focus on attendance, conflict resolution, restorative practices, and social-emotional learning.
  • Funds to support the addition of a Dance Teacher at Isaac E. Young Middle School to open pathways for more students to access our Performing and Visual Arts in Education (PAVE) program.
  • Funding to support a second Science Research Teacher at New Rochelle High School who will also expand the program’s reach into middle and elementary schools.
  • Adding teachers at Huguenot Academy to create access for more ninth-graders.
  • Increasing resources for expanded after-school and summer school programs.
  • Adding laptops, iPads and smart boards for our students and classrooms.
  • Retaining newly hired full-time security staff for our middle and high schools.
  • Expanding support for family engagement, including Parent University and home visits.
  • Investing in Metro Cards to eliminate transportation as a barrier to school attendance for students in need.

The board-approved budget aligns with the school district’s current Strategic Roadmap, which supports investment in Student Learning, Safe and Supportive Schools, Superb Staff, Engagement and Outreach, and Resource Management.

The District is offering to schedule a group presentation and discussion of the budget by calling (914) 576-4219.
