Blue Substance Leaking into Blind Brook in Rye Brook, Traced Back to Westchester County Airport

RYE BROOK, NY (April 14, 2022) — New York State Department of Environmental Services and a Hazmat Coordinator from the Westchester County Department of Environmental Services were called to the scene of an incident behind the Rye Ridge Shopping Center on Tuesday.

Port Chester Fire & Rye Brook Fire Departments responded to a report of a blue like substance in “the keyhole”, a small lake behind the shopping center near South Ridge Street and Bowman Avenue.

Port Chester FD and Rye Brook FD crews worked alongside NYSDEC and WCDEC along with Purchase Fire Department spent the morning investigating the Blind Brook waterway from Rye Brook all the way up to the Westchester County Airport trying to find the source.

Assistance was requested from the Greenwich Fire Department and City Of Rye Fire Department to contain the substance.

The leak is currently under investigation but is contained.
