Eagle Scout Project
In October 2019 Daniel completed his Eagle Scout Project which centered upon the Huguenot/Twin Lakes Park in New Rochelle. The project removed grime, mildew, and dirt from the World War II U.S Marine Memorial and the adjacent Commemorative Stone Benches. In addition volunteers wire- brushed and re-painted/rustproofed the iron fence surrounding the memorials; sanded down and re- painted the wooden railings and floor boards of the two pedestrian bridges in the park; replaced any wooden railings and/or floor boards on those bridges that had warped or started to fall apart; and collected trash/litter along the creek that the two bridges cross over. Most of the materials and supplies were obtained from the New Rochelle Parks and Recreation Department. The ‘Know-how” and power equipment was supplied by Adult Troop Leaders. Daniel coordinated and supervised over 20 volunteers comprised of fellow Scouts, Adult Scout Leaders, classmates, friends, and family members.

Eagle Scout Project
Aidan’s project focused on the Maplewood Park in New Rochelle. The park’s basketball court was laid down and painted for the first time. The basketball back boards were also painted and given new nets. The ground of the open play area was leveled to make it easier and safer for athletic activities. Additionally, a great deal of accumulated trash and debris left behind by park- goers and storms was removed along the park’s walking paths. Trash cans were also installed to help prevent these issues in the future. The project was completed in March 2020.

Working closely with the City of New Rochelle Public Library, Adam was able to renovate the children’s garden adjacent to the learning room of the main New Rochelle Public Library building. Adam led a team of fellow scouts, friends, and family, to prune overgrown trees, spread mulch, build new planter boxes, and lay a stone perimeter around the garden. His team also planted new trees and shrubs along the sides of the garden. His project was conducted over the course of two days and was completed on July 14th, 2020. Adam had successfully transformed what was once a poorly maintained portion of the NRPL into a now blossoming garden to be used by the children of New Rochelle.

Eagle Scout Project
Garth’s Eagle Scout project involved the building of picnic benches and a wooden garbage shed for the Greenburgh Nature Center in Scarsdale. The project was completed in April 2021. The Center is a non-profit organization which provides environmental education with programs for all ages. This project meant a lot to Garth because he remembered visiting the Nature Center several times as a young child. The structure is safe for employee access, protects the carts from the elements, and blends into and compliments the other buildings on the property.
Shiv A. Khanna
Eagle Scout Rank Awarded on March 4, 2021
At the age of 6 Shiv began his scouting adventure as a Cub Scout in New Rochelle Pack 15. He joined Scouting for the opportunity to be involved in outdoor activities that were not offered in other after-school activities. Some of his fondest memories as a Cub Scout were of the Pinewood Derby, it being a great introduction to building something and testing it out in a fun and exciting competition. After earning the Arrow of Light in 2013 Shiv crossed over to the Boy Scouts and joined New Rochelle Troop 15. As a Boy Scout he participated in Summer Camp in the Adirondacks, which was another level of independence, away from his family, in the woods learning new skills. At camp, the swimming, canoeing, and other activities, were anticipated with trepidation, but there was great satisfaction in facing these fears and ultimately enjoying these new experiences.
Currently, Shiv is studying mechanical engineering and economics at Tufts University, Boston. His interests include robotics and Ultimate frisbee.
Eagle Scout Project
Shiv completed his Eagle Scout project in August 2020. The project was a trail restoration project on a trail spur of the Westchester County 6-mile Colonial Greenway. He and his team removed mold and mildew off the catwalks that are located at Pinebrook and Van Etten Blvds. In New Rochelle. Improvements included catwalk rehabilitation, tree and debris removal, and trail widening. In addition to the satisfaction of doing this, he received a commendation from the Commissioner of Parks and Recreation for the City of New Rochelle.
