NEW ROCHELLE, NY (September 16, 2022) — The revolving door at central office continues to spin, this time its the position of Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services.
Diane Massimo retired in 2017, after serving the District for 28 years. In August 2017, she was replaced by Amy Goodman. In February 2019, she was replaced by Dr. Anthony Bongo. In December 2020, he was replaced by Dr. Jackielyn Manning-Campbell who spent a good deal of her tenure on paid sick leave. Next up is Gail Joyner.
The Board of Education approved Joyner’s hiring at its August 9 meeting.
What they are saying:
City School District of New Rochelle:
“Ms. Joyner began her career as an English teacher and comes to the City School District of New Rochelle from Yonkers Early Childhood Academy and Cross Hill Academy, where she was a principal for the past 18 years. She looks forward to applying her experience to supporting our building principals, staff, students, and families.”
Superintendent Jonathan P. Raymond:
“Gail has devoted her adult life to educating, developing, and nurturing the whole child, and brings a commitment to work collaboratively to create a supportive environment where our students can thrive and grow. Supporting our students’ and families’ well-being is more important than ever, and I know Gail will be a transformational leader who will connect with our families and community to achieve our shared goal of helping all our students be successful and achieve their goals and dreams.”
Assistant Superintendent Gail Joyner:
“I am honored to be chosen to be part of the New Rochelle team. It is incumbent upon all of us who are privileged to serve as leaders to open pathways and provide supports to our students to explore new ideas, develop new skills, and become the leaders of tomorrow. My goal in New Rochelle is to provide leadership that helps our students use their voices to become their best advocates and achieve their highest potential.”
EDITOR’S NOTE: The District press release says Joyner came to New Rochelle from “Yonkers Early Childhood Academy and Cross Hill Academy, where she was a principal for the past 18 years” but Joyner’s LinkedIN profile says she came to Yonkers from New York City DOE in 2010 (12 years ago not 18). Also, Joyner lists her job in Yonkers as “Transformational Principal Cross Hill Academy Lead Facilitator Yonkers Leadership Academy”. She does not list Cross Hill Academy at all. The District press release does not mention she worked in New York City for more than 20 years. We have inquired as to the discrepancies and will update this article with any response.
