Arrest & Charges:

Naisanagelly Sanchez, 19, of New Rochelle, NY was charged with Assault 2nd Degree, a D Felony.

UPDATE 11-30-22 1:04 PM

Arraignment:

Naisanagelly Sanchez was arraigned before Judge Eileen Songer-McCarthy moments ago in New Rochelle City Court. Bail was set at $5,000 cash, $25,000 Bond, and $50,000 Partially Secured (10%). She did not offer a plea. She was given a return date of December 8, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. then remanded to the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla.

Judge Songer-McCarthy said Sanchez might be eligible for the Youth Opportunities Part and would refer the matter to Judge Jared R. Rice. Songer-McCarthy also recommended Sanchez (her lawyer) contact the CHOICES program which has an “expediting bail” program.

Sanchez was brought into court in handcuffs. She was wearing a white t-shirt with a design on the front that appeared to be Moana, a character from a Disney film. She had on black jeans and wore fluffy slippers.

Sanchez is 19 years old but tiny, with a slight build, about 5 feet tall and weighing less than 100 pounds. Her brown hair, mostly dyed red, was pulled back in a braided ponytail. She is a light-skinned Hispanic female. Surrounded by New York State Court Officers she looked like a young child.

When Judge Songer-McCarthy set bail, Sanchez convulsed in sobs, crying and sniffling. Later, as she was led out of the courtroom Sanchez began crying and sobbing again. Outside the courtroom, by the prisoner transport elevator she began shouting unintelligibly, but could be hear saying “Oh My God”.

Judge Songer-McCarthy issued a Temporary Order of Protection on behalf of the victim which Sanchez signed. The victim’s name was stated in open court but we are not publishing the victim’s name here.

Details about Sanchez were disclosed during the bail hearing.

Her Legal Aid attorney told Judge Songer-McCarthy that Sanchez, who is 19-years-old has a 5-year-old child who she cares for with the support of a family member. Sanchez currently resides in Mount Vernon with a roommate but previously lived in Albany and Yonkers. Sanchez graduated high school, was interested to attend college and has been working as a waitress at a restaurant.

New Rochelle District Attorney Bureau Chief Philip Mellea told Judge Songer-McCarthy that Sanchez has been arrested 7 times in the past 10 months, that there are 2 open Felony assault charges against her with a Warrant out of Yonkers for one of then (Assault – 2nd) and a Felony Criminal Mischief – 2nd charge which “is related to the problem”. She has an open Criminal Mischief – 3rd charge in Albany, NY. She stabbed a pregnant woman which required stitches in the abdomen area. ADA Mellea said “luckily” the assault did not injure the child. He added that Sanchez had no ties to the area, failed to appear in the Yonkers Assault – 2nd case and is facing 7 years in state prison on the New Rochelle charges making it likely she will not return to court. The DA asked for $25,000 cash, $100,000 Bond, and $150,000 Partially Secured (10%).

EDITOR’S NOTE: The open Sanchez cases in Yonkers mentioned by ADA Mellea are not listed in e-Courts. This happens for a variety of reasons but most often due to the use of different spellings of a name. We have asked the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office to clarify and will update the story with any additional information.

News12 reported the incident occurred in an apartment at 26 Lafayette Avenue.
