RYE, NY (December 30, 2022) — A White Plains man was killed Tuesday when he was struck by a tractor trailer at the junction of I-287 and the I-95. Two other people suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Police narrative: On December 27, 2022, at approximately 4:15 a.m., State Police responded to I-287 and the I-95 ramps in the city of Rye, for a report of a serious injury crash between a tractor trailer and a box truck. A preliminary investigation determined that Kevin J. Roman, 26, of Levittown, PA, was operating a tractor trailer eastbound on I-287 when he exited the roadway and struck a box truck that was disabled on the shoulder. The crash claimed the life of 65-year-old Richard K. Bradwell, of White Plains, NY, who was outside of the vehicle, adding coolant to the box truck at the time of the collision. Bradwell suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Greenwich Hospital, CT, where he was pronounced deceased. A passenger in the box truck, Jane Murray, 62, of White Plains, NY, along with Roman, were transported to Westchester Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. A passenger in the tractor trailer, Israel Velez, 57, of Bristol, PA, was transported to Stamford Hospital, CT, for serious non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers out of New Rochelle were assisted on scene by Troop K BCI, CRU (Collision Reconstruction Unit), CVEU (Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit), and Thruway Maintenance. The crash remains under investigation.
