PORT CHESTER, NY (February 27, 2023) — A Port Chester man was chased and subdued by a group of good Samaritans following a robbery on Sunday.
Port Chester police responded to a report of a robbery in progress yesterday afternoon at a North Main Street travel agency and money transfer business. The suspect fled the scene on foot.
Subsequent investigation revealed the suspect confronted a store clerk, assaulted her, pushed her out of the way and removed currency from the register. A pedestrian in the area, having heard a commotion coming from inside the store, observed the suspect run from the store after. He gave chase and, with assistance of uninvolved individuals, subdued the suspect until police arrived and took the suspect into custody.
As PCPD units canvassed the area, police received reports of a disturbance in the marina parking lot to find numerous people holding a man on the ground.
The store clerk identified the suspect as the person who robbed the store. The suspect was found to be in possession of a substantial amount of cash believed to be proceeds from the robbery.
The store clerk suffered minor injuries. She was treated at the scene and released.
