New Rochelle Offers Second Round of ARPA Grants for Local Businesses and Nonprofits

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (May 12, 2023) — The City of New Rochelle is opening a second round of grant funding for local businesses and nonprofits that have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The grants are part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021, a federal stimulus package that allocated $350 billion to state and local governments for economic relief and recovery.

New Rochelle received a total of $37 million in ARPA funds, which are being distributed in two tranches. The first tranche was awarded in 2022, and the second tranche will be available starting April 1, 2023. Applicants who received funding from the first tranche can apply for the second tranche, but new applicants will be given priority.

The grants are intended to help businesses and nonprofits cover expenses such as payroll, rent, utilities, supplies, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE). The grants can also be used for COVID-19 testing, vaccination, and mitigation efforts.

The City has created a dedicated website, www.newrochellearpa.org, where interested applicants can find detailed information and submit their applications online. The website also features success stories from previous grant recipients, such as restaurants, salons, gyms, arts organizations, and social service agencies.

In addition to the online portal, the City will host six in-person information sessions at City Hall on the following dates:

– Afternoons: April 3, May 1, June 5 @2PM

– Evenings: April 17, May 15, June 19 @6PM

Spanish translation will be available for all sessions.

The grant program is open to City businesses and institutions that have current tax-exempt status as a public charity under section 501 (c) (3), 501 (c) (4), or (19) of the Internal Revenue Code. Applicants must also meet other eligibility criteria, such as having a physical location in New Rochelle and demonstrating a revenue loss due to the pandemic.

Mayor Noam Bramson said that the ARPA grants are part of the City’s comprehensive recovery plan, which aims to strengthen the social, physical, and economic infrastructure of New Rochelle.

“Thanks to ARPA funding, we are able to continue the path towards a comprehensive recovery, with a special focus on strengthening our social, physical, and economic infrastructure,” Bramson said. “We encourage all eligible businesses and nonprofits to apply for this vital support.”
