Written By: Robert Cox

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (May 23, 2023) — An annual spring tradition is for panicked residents to call police and press to inquire about a heavy police presence in the Nature Study Woods off Webster Avenue near New Rochelle High School.

Not to worry.

As part of their final exam, more than 200 New Rochelle High School juniors and seniors will work to process a crime to pass their Forensic Investigation classes.

40 students at a time will be brought to Nature Study Woods, where they will encounter crime scenes they must process as forensic examiners, real crime scene investigators, and forensic scientists.

A uniformed member of the New Rochelle Police Department will act as first responder at the crime scene and will assist teachers in evaluating the students’ work. Students will be required to work in the laboratory to evaluate and examine their evidence before presenting their cases, courtroom style.
